been cooking up a custom firmware - gapless + playlist support
I've spent the last few weeks reverse engineering the ECHO (fat one) firmware, and finally have something I'm using as my daily driver. I focused on playback features that I like over customizability or complexity. The hardest part is actually fitting all the code on the damn thing, it has very little flash memory, so I'm already concerned I've maxed it out and other features will be hard to add now. I hope to release this soon after more testing but here's a sneak peek:
features:
- flac/m4a/aac/mp3 etc. playback
- playlist support via .m3u8 files stored on the sd card
- gapless playback by default
- minified interface, boots into library and just has two screens: library + player. None of that pointless "text" rubbish or file explorer + music library which serve the same thing for me, I ditched that whole menu as it serves me no purpose.
- unified top bar (want more in here than just current track id, but will see)
- silly crt display effect because it's fun
