Hey there - since leaving my W2 job in 2023, navigating insurance as self employed has been a racket. I started a company that does about $3-$5M a year, but as of late was using marketplace plans with my co founder. I’ve heard of PEOs - but not sure if they are worth it for 2 people.

I’d like to know if I should pursue having the company pay for the insurance - paid via Gusto. Or some other strategy I’m not aware of to get decent coverage that isn’t the cost of the 2026 Porsche car payment every month for complete crap - thanks !

What are you all doing for starts ups with < 3 full time US based employees for health insurance. Based in NYC - business does $3 - $5M a year

Hey there - since leaving my W2 job in 2023, navigating insurance as self employed has been a racket. I started a company that does about $3-$5M a year, but as of late was using marketplace plans with my co founder.

At first, I was not making much so I got subsidies. Without the subsidies, my catastrophic plan was like $750+ a month. I just couldn’t stomach it for such a crap plan.

I live with a partner who has great insurance but we’re not married. I’m okay forking it over for a great BCBS or Aetna plan, but for healthfirst… one physical I got two years ago was in an office that looked like more of a dump than the local Dunkin’ Donuts.
