Torpedo grass

More of a vent post than anything. I think my biggest frustration is torpedo grass. It gets everywhere and ultimately I just can’t get all the roots especially when it has integrated itself into the existing plants. The worst is trying to get it out from the Cypress and Maple trees because I don’t want to disturb their roots. No digging. All hand pulling

I have leaf litter as mulch but I might need to put down something a bit more substantial to slow it down.

Next vent post will probably be creeping beggarweed (Desmodium incanum) on behalf of my long haired dog

New area

Working on removing another section of grass. Here we have, in the most full sun area of the yard:

Buttonsage Lantana
Pennyroyal
Skullcap
False Rosemary
Florida Porterweed
Lyreleaf Sage (it’s in the back can’t see it in the picture)
Bluecurls
Simmonds Aster
Calamint
Sunshine Mimosa
White Indigo

I was trying to find some Beach Verbena to flow over the bed but haven’t had any luck, so I’m looking for something else

Work in Progress

Taking over another part of the yard. Moved the fire pit and killed the grass. I usually would dig up the grass but 1) it’s ridiculously hot and 2) the old roots will help keep the soil from washing out. Used a garden bed I already had and filled it up with old branches and leaves before filling it up with soil. Then got to buying and planting. Sticking with all natives in this section hoping for reseeding. Mulch is a pain and I tried so many times for chip drop but gave up and bought it. In the winter I’ll have leaves and pine needles to make the path I really wanted.

Also hope to have benches below the two trees, more for aesthetics as no one really comes over, especially not to sit in my garden.

Biggest concern is the transition from our yard to the neighbors. Keeping a strip of dirt that I’ll maintain but not sure what to do long term. They have a lawn care company that just blows around with a riding lawn mower

Hope to do more soon.

Starting my next section. Recommendations?

Florida Zone 10a

I’m going to move the fire pit. I’d like to put a trellis and/or a seating area at the end of our yard, which is about 10 feet from where the pit is now. I have a good idea of most of the area: mulch path way with more setting areas and probably more plants. I’m not sure what I could do where the pit is now. It’ll be pretty central. Nothing too expensive
