Can the Zepbound Savings Card be used with employer insurance in Canada?

Hi everyone,

I’m in Canada and I have Zepbound coverage through my employer’s Sun Life drug plan. I also signed up for the Canadian Zepbound Savings Card through Lilly.

I’m trying to understand how the savings card actually works when you already have private/employer insurance.

What I’m specifically wondering is whether the pharmacy can apply the Zepbound Savings Card first, so it reduces the price of the medication, and then submit the discounted amount to Sun Life.

For example, if the pharmacy price is around $450 and the savings card brings it down to around $300, could Sun Life then cover its percentage of that $300?

Or does it work the other way around, where Sun Life has to process the claim first and then the savings card only applies to whatever copay is left over?

My Sun Life plan already covers most of the cost, so I’m mainly curious whether the savings card can lower the actual drug cost before insurance, rather than just acting like secondary coverage for the remaining balance.

Has anyone here actually tried this with Sun Life, Canada Life, Manulife, GreenShield, etc.? I’d especially love to hear what the pharmacy actually did when they processed both.

Thanks!
