Where does commuting end and leisure begin GWR

I have no data, merely anecdotal evidence and no idea how i might quantify it if anyone can help.

On GWR lines West to Wales and down to the South West i am interested where does the 'commuting into London' zone end and the 'destinations in own right' zone begin. Im aware people commute from anywhere and destinations can be anywhere, but where does it begin to swing from one to another in terms of numbers?

For example in Wales id guess with all the lines feeding into it Cardiff has a grester in flow of people coming in to Cardiff itself than commuting out, but Newport id guess has more people going East to Bristol/London.

In the South West id guess nowhere South West of Bristol has more commuters than local traffic, and places East of it (including Bath as great a destination that is) is more London oreintated. Potentially Exeter gets its own much smaller inflow from the surrounding area and metro as a very small (maybe the smallest City to have one)

Bit wordy i know, but any data or anecdotes from regular travellers welcome.
