Low-dose Accutane (10–20 mg) + gym — how did it affect your training?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering starting low-dose isotretinoin (around 10–20 mg/day) for mild but persistent acne.

I’ve already tried topical treatments and skincare routines, but nothing has given me long-term clear skin.

The thing I’m most concerned about is the gym.

I train regularly (3–5 times a week, mostly hypertrophy/strength training) and I really want to continue during treatment.

I want to clarify that I’m specifically asking about low-dose treatment, because I understand that side effects and impact on training might be milder compared to standard or high-dose courses.

So my questions are:

  • Did anyone here take low-dose Accutane (10–20 mg) and still train in the gym?
  • How did it affect your strength, recovery, and joints?
  • Were side effects like fatigue, soreness, or joint pain noticeable at low dose?
  • Were you able to maintain or gain muscle during the course?
  • Did you have to reduce intensity or change your training program significantly?

I’m mainly looking for real experiences from low-dose users, since I understand that higher-dose experiences can be quite different.

Any honest feedback would be really appreciated.

I’m 22M, 66 kg, mild but persistent acne.

Thanks!
