Nearly finished Sem 1, still no friends. Help.

Is anyone else also in this situation? What the heck can I even do?
For me, it's an hour (give or take 10mins) commute to uni for me, and I gave up on forcing myself to go to societies and talk to people about week 8, because it felt like it was getting nowhere and they just want to talk to their own friends. I was getting tired of all that commuting late at night just for nothing to come of it. (btw I straight up can't go to a lot of society events because I literally can't drink because I have a severe alcohol intolerance.)

I would really love to have a sense of community in my Commerce degree, but there is none. A lot of it is online, and the environment feels hyper competitive and they are always rushing off or have someone else they'd rather be speaking to. So my days are spent trying to force myself to do uni work at home despite feeling like shit all the time, and occasionally making the journey to USyd to do tutorials.

Are there any subjects that you recommend picking that is good for making friends - or even whole minor? (e.g. might have in-person lectures, and face-to-face tutorials that encourage interaction) Or any societies that are welcoming and are small enough that you see the same people consistently? Is the best way in to a friend group joining a subcommittee (which I'd have to do 2nd year I guess)?

(btw, I'm strongly supportive of minority rights, (e.g. I would rather not be friends with transphobes, of which there are many) which doesn't go well with me doing a business degree.)
speaking of which, maybe i could try to start a society for queer people / allies in business. but that feels like a very misguided idea. idk. i'm tired.
