OMS3 Pathology Elective Rotation Advice
Hi everyone! I am an upcoming OMS3. I am interested in pathology, but I would love advice on how to approach my conundrum. I get one surgery selective and one clinical elective for my 3rd yr. I have been placed in a very rural area for my rotations, so I think the closest private pathology clinics are 1.5 hours to 3 hours away from me. I have been struggling to find a clinical pathologist to rotate. I am interested in seeing what everyday life is like at a practicing pathologist/the different sub-specalities possibly. My school does have a connection to a pathologist who works remotely for 2 hours a day. Other students enjoy this rotation, but I would love to be a little more hands on/form a better relationship with my preceptor. I possibly have an in at the state crime lab for forensic pathology (which would count for a surgical selective). It would be hands on for sure! It would be about 5 hours from my future house but I can probably find a couch to crash on. We cannot do both a clinical elective and surgical selective in pathology. I would live advice on the matter! Should I do the remote pathology rotation, try to email private practices, or rotate in forensic pathology? I am trying to make sure I can get a LOR from a pathologist for VSLO/Eras. Please let me know what y'all think! I may be over thinking it, but I just wanted to get advice since my school hasn't been able to help toooooo much. Thank you!!
