Olson Flat vs. FD New Spiral Blades

Olson Flat vs. FD New Spiral Blades

I've only been scrolling for about three weeks, on a HF Bauer 22". And I have been experimenting with regular reverse cut blades from Olson, and New spiral blades from Flying Dutchman.

The Christmas ornament photo attached shows a 5R Olson on the left and a 3/0 FD spiral on the right. Only a surface sanding done.

I have done multiple other designs with both flat and spiral. I am finding that while I love the concept of any direction cutting, spirals don't do well at inside angles, and especially for me, creating smooth circular cuts. The outside of the spiral ornament is terrible.

I understand that some people say it is a matter of practice to get better with spirals, but I'm not sure.

I think I will focus on flat blades with reverse teeth.

Hi, I recently retired and just sold all my larger woodworking tools to a younger neighbor, and bought a 22" Bauer from HF as a replacement. I've done a logo and a kids puzzle so far and I am liking the precision and Zen nature of just sitting there completely focused.

I do have a couple operational, dust related questions.

I did keep a dust collector setup, and for now mounted a plastic tote under the saw with a hole for the hose. This captures most all of the dust but not from the top.

I have seen the Scrollnado, and fashioned a similar setup with PVC for the top, but not really happy with it.

I also see many 3D printable underneath adapters which look promising.

Ideally, I would like to only have an under table setup, which leads me to want to drill a series of holes in my table around the blade hole, like I see on the Pegas saw, to allow top side dust to be sucked down.

I'd love any thoughts or solutions people have come up with and whether I am crazy to drill holes.
