Is electrical engineering school much easier than it used to be?

I am a senior EE student at UC Davis. I find that many of my classes feel like they kind of just spoon feed you material so you can churn out answers on a test. It feels like the objective of many classes is moreso to simply learn the material than it is to really think like an engineer (combine knowledge in several areas creatively to come up with solutions). One of my profs is a bit older and seems to think modern profs teach "to the test" instead of teaching to think like an engineer.

Do you guys think this is true?
