Don’t buy the first horse you try?

Hi everyone. Kinda crazy situation that I want yalls input on.

Yesterday afternoon, my barn announced that the lesson program is closing. (Totally random and uncalled for, nobody was given any reason, not even my poor trainer who’s just been fired). Because of this, all of the lesson horses are going to be up for sale, including my favorite one.

I’ve been looking at possible horses for myself for awhile now but I’ve had no luck at all. Months of searching and I’ve only found one that interests me and he’s 7 hours away. I haven’t even gone to test ride anything yet. This mare (the lesson horse) would be my first.

I’ve heard people say to not buy the first/only horse you’ve tried. But this girl is so sweet. She’s helped re build my confidence and love for this sport. She’s certainly not the fanciest of horses, but she’s smooth and safe. I’ve only had her spook on me once and afterwards we resumed the lesson just fine. The idea of her going to someone else just hurts. But will I regret not trying other horses? And if I do go try other horses, will I regret not getting her? She’s so incredible that I wouldn’t be surprised if other people were interested in her. My trainer called us first when she got the news so I believe we’re the first people to say that we’re interested in her. Hopefully we hear back soon, and hopefully I’m healed from my injury in time to try her. (I did fall off of her but it wasn’t her fault! Rider error lol. She even stayed by my side the whole time which I’ve never had a horse do).

The whole situation is baffling. I just wanted to see what you all thought.
