Approved! Canadian Citizenship, Marriage-Based AOS (Cleveland)

This is pretty surreal. It took a whole lot of patience, but we finally did it! My husband and I got married in July 2025 and managed to pay our immigration attorney by late October to get the application sent out!

My biometrics appointment happened on December 12th in Downtown Cleveland, and it went pretty smoothly.

For some strange reason, despite having paid a hefty retainer, our lawyer didn’t submit the RFE response until February 8th…

Whilst all this was happening, I was unable to go back home to Canada to see my mom, who was diagnosed with cancer late February/early March. Thankfully, I only missed one chemo session of hers, as my interview came soon after (April 10th).

The interview was also in Downtown Cleveland and the guy was very nice. He had us go through the general questions first, and then asked questions related to our relationship which were also pretty straightforward. Our lawyer insisted to have him and another attorney come with us, but there was no need for them to step in throughout the whole process.

Again, the interviewer was super understanding of the situation happening in Canada, and he promised me that I would be able to go home before the next chemo.

We were hoping to get the approval the next day, but we understood when we didn’t since it was the weekend.

I finally woke up to an approval email on April 16th and managed to get an ADIT stamp on my passport at the office the next day.

Both my green card and SSN were shipped to my lawyer’s office.

Unfortunately, the lawyer didn’t disclose that to us, neither did he notify us that the green card was delivered at their office on April 27th but we finally managed to grab it from them today! If USCIS doesn’t provide the tracking link, please contact Emma and have an agent provide you with one. We wouldn’t have known it was already delivered otherwise!

I am so thankful that this whole thing is done. I didn’t know it was going to take this long. I was told that since I hold both a European and Canadian passport, it would only take about 3 months. However, I am still so grateful that I finally have this green card and I can move past all this.

I wanted to give you all my best wishes, and know that I am always here in case you have any questions.
