Separate backpacking and camping tents, or multi-purpose at the cost of a pound of weight??
I know there is no right or wrong here, I might as well flip a coin but curious what the hive mind suggests.
I am an assistant leader in an active scout troop. We camp 1 weekend a month 8-10 months of the year. The troop is going to dip a toe into backpacking, but we don’t know yet how popular or frequent that will be.
At the moment I have a Gazelle T4 which I love,
but some trips it’s not as convenient to schlep as others. I got an Alps Mountaineering Ranger1 for wicked cheap just to mess around with, but it’s in the 13 lb range, def not doable for backpacking.
My research has led me to the Nemo Osmo Dagger but I’m stuck between the 2P and 3P.
The 2P would be fine, but I doubt I would choose to use it unless I needed to. If I get the 3P, I’m fairly sure it would get some decent use on regular trips.
So the 2P, but it will be a shelf princess predominately, or spend the 1 pound price and bit of extra volume and get something that will see the light of day??
Set price aside, I’m fortunate to have an REI gift card to cover either option.
