Got lit up by a control transformer. Having a hard time understanding why

Working with this brand new multi voltage primary, 24VAC 40VA secondary, step down transformer today. I’ve wired and worked with several in the past but today was a little different. I was feeding the primary side of the transformer with a standard 120v circuit. It also had three unused primary side wires (208,240,480) In the event I was going to feed the transformer with a different voltage I would’ve paired one of these wires with the common wire. Anyways, after I had wired it in and turned it ON…. I was capping off the extra unused primary side wires. When I got around to capping off the 480 wire (green in this case) I must’ve scraped the copper of the green wire on the back of my right hand while my left hand was grounded to the metal box I was working in. It felt like god himself grabbed my arms and was pulling me towards the box, the lights started to go out in my head but then my hand contracted off of the wire. Stood there in disbelief for a minute trying to process what happened. Anyways I get cleared at the hospital to go home and can’t help myself. So I take the same exact spare transformer I have and wire it up in my apartment. See the picture I’ve added. Somehow that transformer while powered up with 120vac is putting off 480vac with potential to ground on its spare input wire. And I decided to get in the middle of it. Now I’m here trying to understand why the transformer is behaving like this. Did I actually get hit with 480??? I’ve done some of my own research and have gotten some answers but I want some more human insight. (I wrapped the ground around the mounting plate of the transformer to simulate the same conditions that were inside the box today)
