New transplants from the south, how are you doing?

Apocryphally, there have been a bunch of folks from the south moving here for a more friendly environment for LGBTQ adults and (especially?) families moving for nb/trans kids. I'm a nb parent of two nb kids myself, so welcome here! How are you doing? What are your biggest experiences of culture shock? What are you surprised by? What do you wish you knew before you got here?

Grinnell Glacier, Iceberg Lake, I want it all!

I need some help thinking through logistics. I'll be in Glacier in August, and would love to do both the Grinnell Glacier and Iceberg Lake hikes. Obviously these will not be in the same day. I have a campsite in Many Glacier for one night. The night before we are camping in the park (Sprague Creek) and the night after we are going to Waterton Lakes. I'll be with an 11 and 15 year old who are good hikers but the younger one occasionally need to be bribed with jellybeans* to not whine. I do not care how many jellybeans these hikes are equivalent to.

What I am thinking is: Wake up at Sprague Creek, priority is to get to Many Glacier. (We'll already have had a few nights on the West side of the park.) If possible do the take-the-boat option for the shorter Grinnell Glacier hike. Maybe we'll even get to take a shower when we come back! Next day: Iceberg Lake hike, when we're done drive to Waterton Lakes.

Questions:

  1. What is the best way to get from Sprague Creek to Many Glacier?

  2. I know I don't need shuttle tickets to MG because we have a campsite, but is there a specific time that we'll be allowed to drive in, or just whenever we get there?

  3. Does this make sense as an itinerary?

*Parents: get some jellybeans. This strategy has saved many vacations.
