Lawyer won’t give me itemized bills.
I live I Los Angeles, California and my daughter and I were in an accident a year ago and i was not at fault . An insurance company has already agreed to a 100k settlement (policy limit) in a case I filed. The medical providers that the firm chose are clearly inflating bills- like a 1500 telehalth appointment that lasted 10 minutes or charging 25000 for 4 epidural injections. The firm cut those down but they are still all very high. I am asking firm to take 25% instead of 33% to make up for the fact that they couldn’t and wouldn’t try to negotiate down further. They refused. I said, ok, then I will need you to give me an itemized bill from each of these providers so that I can make sure these are not arbitrary made up numbers. My actual lawyer did not respond, but the negotiator sent me a letter threatening to take the 33% and leave me to find a new attorney after they file and interpleader. I know they can’t actually do this- but I’m shocked that this was the response. I’m thinking there must be some collusion going on here that they are trying to cover up. I had Medi-cal health insurance but they wanted me to only use their doctors. I responded letting them know that I was no dummy and I cc’d the managing partners of the firm, but now I’m not sure what to do. I have said before that if they give me 50k ( right now my take home is 42 ) I’ll walk. I’m permanently injured though and their doctors did nothing. So I want at least 50k. I’d love a little advice.
