Math Co-op
How hard is it to get co-op placement first year?
What kind of jobs are available?
What experiences should one have to increase their chances of getting co-op?

Would anyone be willing to answer a few questions about Waterloo math?
- How hard are the courses generally? Is the math very different than high school math?
- Is it still possible to maintain a 3.5+ GPA
- Is it easy to get a co-op?
- In case you don’t get a co-op what do you do that semester than?
- overall would you say the program is worth it?
I’m trying to decide between UofT Physical & Mathematical Sciences and Waterloo Math Co-op (Applied Math, scientific computing / sci ML) because I’m really interested in AI/ML and neuroscience long term, and I’ve always kind of wanted UofT, but I’m not in CS there, so I’m confused how realistic it is to still get into AI/ML from physical & math sciences — like can you actually build the same skills, take the right courses, and get research/opportunities without being in CS, or does it become a lot harder compared to Waterloo where the co-op + applied math path seems more direct for ML? I guess what I’m really asking is whether UofT is still a strong path into AI/ML if I don’t do CS, or if Waterloo Applied Math is just the more straightforward/better option for that goal. I’d really appreciate any advice! Thank you!
Hi, I got into Waterloo Mathematics co-op and I’m planning to go into Applied Mathematics (Scientific Computing / ML) in 2nd year.
I’m deciding between this and UofT Physical & Mathematical Sciences (possible Computational Cognitive Science path).
I’m really confused and would appreciate advice on:
Any honest input would really help. Thanks!
