AI CEOs are self-loathing
I recently saw the viral clip by Sam Altman where he says "AI will probably most likely lead to the end of the world, but in the meantime, there'll be great companies". I think this is emblematic of the fact that the AI industry selects for people who don't care about humanity and distrust other people. I've run into some of these people in person and they really seem to lack basic empathy/theory of mind, which is wild given that they are building new intelligences. I almost think I could do a better job because I actually have basic compassion for other people. I'm frustrated that doomer assholes are running the show when they implicitly or explicitly want us all dead.
