Landlord being shady about deposit

Hi, I moved out from Germany few months back and my landlord said that he would deduct some part of the deposit for repainting the apartment. My apartment was 55sqm and deposit was 1600euros, which was two months rent. Now I asked my landlord about how much I’d be getting back from my deposit and he is claiming to have used up 1500euros. Is this even legal? Like is it possible to use up my entire deposit without consulting me at all? Also does the amount sound normal? I was staying in this apartment for 2.5years and it was freshly painted when I moved in anyway and I didn’t cause any damage, paint chipping, or any extra wear and tear than normal usage. My landlord seemed like a nice person all this while so this kinda sucks even more. I have asked for the receipts already. But what should I do? What are the laws around this? Can I get some suggestions please.

Update: Thanks for all the suggestions. He refused to share the receipts with multiple excuses couple of times. Also to give some more context on the condition of the apartment when I left, I didn’t change anything colors, drill any holes or even put any adhesive on the walls. I even have a video of the apartment of how I left it. But if he ghosts me or doesn’t share the receipts at all what do I do? Also as few comments suggested I don’t have rechstversicherung. Am I doomed?
