What do you consider reasonable time when it comes to replacing washing machines?
ENGLAND RENTING SITUATION The bearings went on my landlords washing machine after 3 years on 26th April. Flooded my kitchen. It wasnt new to the property when I moved in so I dont actually know how old it is.
I reported it and within 3 days a contractor confirmed a replacement was needed. I have now, as someone who doesnt have a car and uses a mobility stick to walk had to lunk washing to a launderette in a carpark (wash.me) and pay 25 quid for the honour plus taxi/bus fares for 3 weeks and it is killing me.
Tried to propose to the letting agent a deal where I buy my own washing machine. First attempt via email and vm was ignored. Found out my account manager quit and I tried to ask the person who advised me they quit that i have a proposal to sort this out and they sent me a standard response twice. The landlord has been sent the quote and will review it. Its been a week.
I have a families worth of washing, at 23.50 if I skimp on softener and I also have to do this without a car and I havent budgeted for 25 quid a week (plus 8.90 taxi fare both ways or a bus and then me lugging 25kg of clothes 2 miles across roads that dont have traffic lights with only the use of one hand, cos the other one is holding a walking stick).
I checked the documentation about replacements and it just says 'a reasonable time' which i think is a week, maybe two but I am getting nothing.
I work. I have to go to the office. I cant smell bad. I am in perimenopause and in the smelly phase so I NEED to wash my clothes. They refused to acknowledge my proposal and now I am in a weird loop of asking for help and getting the same standard email.
Sigh, sorry I am tired. I know I have to take this trip tomorrow to get clean clothes for me and my family and I know its gonna be physically painful for me and it is going to hit me in the wallet.
I dont think the letting agent cares about the situation but I would like to know if anyone has any idea what is deemed a reasonable time to replace essentials and if I have a case to reduce my rent or reclaim the costs from the letting agent for delaying the situation.
