Masters with AGPCNP versus DNP - what is the difference, which one is better, which one makes more sense?
Context: RN with Masters in Nursing currently taking up Adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner certificate. Looking at doing a DNP afterwards… or concurrently with this certificate if my squirrel nature wins. 🐿️
I’ve been researching if it makes sense to do a DNP after I graduate but can’t find good info out there. After graduation, i plan to practice as a primary care practitioner at a clinic or SNF. I don’t think I am interested in going into education, but I may be interested in writing papers and doing evidence-based research while doing clinical practice. Will not let go of doing RN bedside as part-time or PRN to keep me current.
For those who have gone through this path, does it make sense to do a DNP afterwards? If yes, what speciality? Is there a General DNP or should I be looking at a specific DNP major?
Bonus question: what is the consensus out there when it comes to reputation or employability for students who are graduating from a fully online university? Any DNP school recommendations? I am residing in Texas with a NY and a compact license I assume I can study anywhere my license allows?
TIA! 🙏🏼
