2026 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid, ACC braking late, anyone else?

Picked up a 2026 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid a few weeks back and loving it overall, but I've noticed the adaptive cruise control waits very late to apply the brakes when a slower vehicle is ahead or the vehicle starts slowing down rapidly. Not phantom braking (which I know is the more common complaint), the opposite. It detects the lead vehicle fine but it waits very long to start braking, and by the time it does I'm already nervous and reaching for the pedal. A few times the brake warning indicator on the instrument cluster has lit up before the car actually slowed down.

For context, I came from a 2021 Civic Sport and the ACC experience there was much more positive. Detection felt earlier, braking was smoother and more confidence-inspiring. The 2026 feels like a step back.

A few details:

  • Happens at highway speeds, mostly 55 to 70 mph
  • Consistent across following-interval settings, but worst on shorter intervals
  • No weather or lighting pattern I've been able to pin down
  • No dash warnings or DTCs as far as I can tell, just the brake warning that pops up in the moment

Things I've added since taking delivery:

  • FitCamX dashcam (mounted behind rearview mirror, does not seem to be blocking Honda Sensing camera's forward window)
  • Ceramic sun strip at the top of the windshield (does not come anywhere near the camera)

Before I take it to the dealer, curious if anyone else with an 11th gen Civic is seeing the same thing. The system is camera-only per the owner's manual, so I'm wondering whether this is a known calibration issue out of the factory, whether the dashcam could realistically be the culprit even with proper clearance, or whether it's just how the system behaves and I need to adjust my expectations after coming from a different ADAS.
