I built a free browser tool that converts geotagged photos into Google Earth Pro KMZ files
Hey r/googleearth,
I've been working on a tool called Pixmapper that converts geotagged photos into KMZ files you can open directly in Google Earth Pro, entirely in the browser, no install, no server, no data ever leaves your device.
You drop in your photos, it reads the GPS/EXIF data, and generates a KMZ with:
- Photo thumbnails embedded in each placemark balloon
- Date, time, bearing, altitude, lat/lng in the balloon sidebar
- A compass showing the direction the photo was taken (when available)
- Customisable placemark icon and balloon accent colour
- Photos grouped by date
It works great for field surveys, hiking trips, drone photography, real estate walkthroughs - anything where you want to visualise where and when photos were taken on a map.
Try it here: pixmapper.com
Would love any feedback, particularly from people working with large photo sets or unusual camera hardware. Still early days so brutal honesty welcome.
