Landscaper has not finished the job asking for almost all the money.
We employed a landscape gardener to extend out our flower bed and put in a retaining bed as we wanted to put some privacy screening up using large laurels or similar.
We did stress to him that the whole point of the work was to get in the screening, and we did email this to him.
We paid him 50% upfront £6k
We are now in a situation where he has put the retaining bed in and some pretty bedding plants (nice but not what we wanted).
He missed up on getting the big planting in and hasn’t even ordered it as yet.
He has now left site, not ordered the big plants and saying there on a 2 weeks leadtime, should he order them?
The job was supposed to be completed 3rd week of May.
He is now asking for all of his money apart from £500 for planting the big shrubs.
Currently we have a damaged patio which he needs to fix (as he removed a section to get the bed in) the flower bed still has all the old roots in which he was supposed to grind out to get the big planting in and move some old shrubs again to get the planting in.
Apart from the issues with works not being completed with looking at putting big planting in Mid June reduces the chances of it surviving the big planting is going to cost us £1,500 if he orders it now.
I really don’t want to withold his money, him be out of pocket and fallout and him threaten anything legal.
But on the other hand I feel as the whole thing has been a waste of time and money as I haven’t got what I wanted, and if I pay him he has no incentive to come back and complete the works.
Any advice.
