Maybe I should start by saying that I am relatively new to philosophy and my background is in AI. I've been studying philosophy in order to try to gain insights for AI specifically how proper reasoning can be achieved. I stumbled upon Brandoms works midway on my reading on primary analytic philosophers and I thought I might as well give him a try since he seems to have a lot to say about the topic I'm interested in.

I just finished reading Articulating Reasons and started Making it Explicit. To be honest I'm still not sure if I have grasped his overall ambition n aim with his philosophy. At the one hand he seems to me to be saying really fundamental stuff, eg trying to set the right order of explanation about our discursive activity such that it is grounded correctly, which set my enthusiasm up. On the other hand when I try to search how his work has been received by the field I found little engagement and that makes me wonder why. So I guess my question is first, is he legit and does he successfully carry his project? And second if he is, did I overestimate the importance of his philosophy?

On a side note, I am also planning to go through Kant's Critique but I don't know if he is still relevant so I'd really appreciate any further recommendations regarding reasoning/logic or anything really that could prove useful insight for AI on that topic.
