I passed the 7-12 math on my second attempt
Hi everyone!
I recently took my second attempt on Sunday. I checked the TEA website this morning (Tuesday) and saw I passed! I got exactly a 240!
The first time I took it was last year in September. I barely studied and scored a 199. In between both tests I’ve been on emergency certification teaching Geometry and AQR. I would say the teaching experience helped a lot! Beforehand the math knowledge I had was from the EC-6 core subjects math portion, college algebra, elementary statistics, and college geometry.
For the second attempt the study materials I used to help me were 240 tutoring (I didn’t complete each concept), Khan Academy, and Certify teacher. My coworker who is the only calculus teacher at my school helped me as well.
240 is great for pacing and seeing what content to know. Khan is great for relearning/learning new concepts you don’t understand from 240. Certify is good to understand the testing format.
I found the test to be calculus and trig heavy. I honestly barely studied those when I should’ve focused on them more. When studying I also hand wrote a lot of information and found any way to use my calculator (TI 84 CE Plus Python). I studied from mid April until the day before my test May 18th. When taking the test I used all the time. By the last 10 minutes I had around 18 questions unanswered and tried to guess the best I can.
I can now teach math from EC to 12th grade now! I also now have my position secured for the next school year and can finally relaxed.
I hope this helps anyone wanting to take the test!
Remember to breathe, go to a new environment to study if needed, ask for help, and take mental breaks!
