Minimal fuel
Hey guys, a lot of fuelling info here but couldn’t find anything related to my specific question.
I’ve run two marathons and two ultras- fuelling and gut issues have always been my struggle, especially on road when I’m going faster. My stomach just can’t handle anything- I’ve tried many gel brands, baby food, honey, real food, potatoes, drink mixes, lollies, chews. Literally everything. But I always have gut cramping after eating.
On ultras I don’t have the problem because I’ll eat when hiking the elevation and my overall pace is slower due to technical terrain. I use salt capsules and plain water which works well, electrolyte drinks are too much on my stomach on top of food.
On faster races, I seem to perform better half starved lol relying on eating well before I start.
Anyone here use minimal fuel and still successfully run faster marathons? Or has anyone managed to overcome similar gut issues?
In my day to day life, I have no gut issues whatsoever and can eat anything
