i have been doing a lot of research into care and anatomy of turtles , and i know i'm still not prepared enough yet , but i wanted to ask where i would buy one ? do you need two for them to be happy ?

i have a 40 (?) gal tank so getting a male would be preferable . is that an ok size ?

how do i know if it's illegal or not ? i haven't really been given a clear answer on what "illegal" means in this case , or what the reprecussions are .

i really want a diamondback terrapin specifically ( because i'm really autistic and love ninja turtles and that's the likely species they are in 2012 lol ), so any advice or other tips are appreciated :}
