I just wanted to add that I work in social services and I worked in crisis for a very long time with young adults,children and teenagers. I think one thing people are missing is that the system is broken regardless of who you are. If you’re someone who is a minority or someone below the poverty line, it’s even more difficult to navigate through. Bottom line is if child protective services found something to keep the case open and take custody of their child they would have done so. So we surmise there must not have been anything that they found that was the fault of the parents. When you have a teenager, that’s running away, you can call the cops as many times as you want. You can take their phones, you can ground them and at the end of the day, there’s really nothing you can do. When it comes to the international travel, I can’t comment on that, but I will say that if she had her birth certificate, which she could’ve stolen from her parents then anybody could’ve filled out those forms forged her parents signature. it’s not that hard. But even with child protective services, the investigation would be to prove that the parents were doing everything they could to safeguard Celeste to make sure that they weren’t just letting her run away. And the investigation would have shown that the child was willfully running away. And if David lied about being with her and I’m sure that he had people who were willing to support his claims as well. There’s nothing they can do. When I worked in crisis, we had safety plans in place for kids. We had relatives who tried to look out, we had parents like let them keep their phones because they could track their location. It didn’t matter even if the local police were aware of the situation. They still got out of the house once they’re out the door everything else is whatever. They leave the phones that the parents give them so they can’t be tracked. Typically if they’re going to someone who is an abuser they can buy them a new phone. I just think that 1 we don’t know what happened 2 if a kid went out of the house they’re gonna get out of the house.
