SL-20B

I found a 2007 HAAS sl-20b for $14k. It appears to be in good shape based on the photos and the report from the dealer. It does not have a tail stock. Which is my only hang up. I won’t be turning out more than 200 parts a month of 1.125” OD brass with a stick out of about 3-4”

The 6061 aluminum parts I’ll be turning are 2.5” OD with a stick out of about 6”. With low production is this a good option or is it unadvisable to go without a tail stock?

I really appreciate all of your help. I’ve always dreamed of getting involved with this industry. As I’m sure you all know, coming in with limited experience feels like quite the leap. I hope to some day contribute more to this community than I take from it.

Cheers

Sl-20

Hey all, I’m looking for some guidance on a purchase. I located a 2003 sl-20 that appears to be in decent shape and is still under power and in operation.

What are your thoughts on this machine? It sounds like some components have been discontinued but how common are board failures? I can tear apart just about anything and put it back together. Plus I’m stubborn enough to figure it out before calling a tech. Am I out of touch thinking I can maintenance and repair this thing myself if/ when the time comes?
