Built a custom chess engine from scratch — no neural networks, no copied

opening books, no tablebases. Running on lowest grade raspberry pi.The evaluation pulls from a mix of STEM fields:

- Physics

- Mathematics

- Structural engineering

- Computer science

- Statistics (for testing changes empirically)

The goal was an evaluation function that's interpretable — every term has a

reason behind it, so the engine isn't a black box.

It's running on Lichess as STEMbot. Plays blitz, rapid, and classical, a few

concurrent games. Gets a little stronger over time as it accumulates games.

Still a work in progress. Beatable, especially by stronger players who notice

what it's over- or under-weighting.

If you want to try it: https://lichess.org/@/STEMbot

Happy to discuss the STEM angles at a high level. Most useful feedback is what

kinds of positions it handles poorly.

It should work properly assuming no issues arise, if that is the case I will fix as quick as possible.
