I’m from one of the 75 visa waiver countries. I had a J-1 in 2024 and another J-1 in 2025. About a month before my 2025 J-1 expired, I changed status to B2.
I met my husband (US citizen) in July 2025, got engaged in December 2025, and married in January 2026. My B2 was approved in December as well.
We prepared everything ourselves without a lawyer because our case is pretty straightforward: no visa denials, no overstay, no crimes, no previous marriages, no kids.
Interview experience:
We were expecting a lot of questions based on what we read on Reddit, but the interview was completely different from what we expected.
Our interview was scheduled for 8:15 AM. We arrived at the USCIS building around 7:30 AM, checked in, went to the second floor, and there was only one family and one woman in the waiting room. About 5–10 minutes later, a female officer of Asian appearance came out and called us in. She was very nice and pleasant.
We went into her office. AOS Timeline + Interview Experience (Philadelphia FO)

She took my photo, asked for my ID, and started taking fingerprints. She had some issues with the system and couldn’t get the fingerprints to work, so she just said “okay, never mind.”
At the same time, she asked my husband how we met — and that was literally the only relationship question she asked.
Then she asked if we had any new joint financial documents like a shared bank account or anything else we hadn’t submitted before. Since I’m not working, I told her we didn’t really have financial evidence like that yet, but we did bring updated proof. My husband started giving her all of our new evidence. She also asked to see the original marriage certificate because the copy we uploaded was low quality.
From all the new evidence, she only scanned two pages, but we had already uploaded everything online about a week before the interview.
Then she asked me where I worked during my 2025 J-1 and what visa/status I currently have. After that, she immediately moved on to the yes/no questions.
She never directly said we were approved, but she mentioned that I’m becoming a US citizenship and said I still wouldn’t be able to vote until I had a US passport. She told us to wait for updates by email or online and said she didn’t know how long it would take because they’re updating their systems right now.
Honestly, it felt like she spent maybe 5 minutes quickly looking through the case before the interview and that was it. There were zero questions about the RFE.
The interview lasted about 10 minutes total. The officer honestly seemed nervous too. We walked out of the building at 8:08 AM — literally before our actual interview time was even supposed to start.
I didn’t get any notification after interview it’s still just “interview was scheduled” hope next week i’m gonna hear something back
