Surgery a couple days away and stressing out a bit

Hey guys,

A couple weeks ago I had a bad accident on the soccer field. I have a distal MCL tear and a partial ACL tear.

If i had a proximal MCL tear my doctor said he likely wouldn't do surgery, but because the distal MCL tears rarely heal back properly and mine is retracted, he recommended surgery so I can play again someday and not have a bad knee. While he's in there, he's going to actually take a look at the ACL and see if it needs any attention, from a BEAR implant to full reconstruction. He said the MRI shows decent fiber on both sides of the ACL and it's not a full tear.

I'm scheduled for surgery Friday, and frankly starting to dread it. I've gained a ton of motion and I'm almost walking normally without any obvious gross instability. Granted, I'm not testing it at all and I know it's still torn and likely hasn't magically repaired itself.

Logically I think it's the right thing to do, but it's super hard to commit to a very long rehab and a "regression" in capability if I'm walking right now.

I'm a pretty athletic person and it's going to be torture to not be able to work out or carry my kids around for a little while.

I guess I'm just commiserating and maybe looking for some encouragement or advice.
