So, this is 100% into fanfic territory and if yall know a better place for this post please point me in the direction and I shall make my way.
So, I accidentally noticed I was making my DnD campaign very much like a Count of Montecristo scenario and decided to lean into it, with a few major changes I wanted your opinions on what would the consequences of that be.
Edmundo's exhile was longer and to a harsher place and to survive he managed to get arcane powers.
Mercedes dies a natural death of old age a few days after the party with the count where she asks about his past love life, before any other major interactions.
The count, to gain access to his powers for survival and revenge, knows for a fact he won't be going to the same heaven as her should he die, a proposition that also is made harder by the fact that his powers kinda prevent that.
There are ways to ressurect people in this world and the count has access to that, but the soul must be willing, available and the body must be somewhat preserved so there is a deadline. The count tried and got nothing, and is unable to even get an answer if the soul is unwilling or unavailable.
Considering since this is Count of Monte Cristo on fantasy and steroids and the Count is a powerful sorcerer for all effects and purposes, what would the next course of action (or innaction? Solitaire anguish is always a possibility) be for the Count? What would be the main story changes and what would remain the same? Please help me, oh great hivemind of the internet!
And again I know this is 100% fanfic and don't know if this is welcomede here, please point me elsewhere if need be
TL;DR: what would change in the story if the count had immense magical necromantic powers but mercedes died right after the ball?
