I'm a pre-service teacher who is currently majoring in Linguistics in order to qualify for EAL. My friend informed me that VCE EAL and VCE English are basically the same. Hearing this, I'm quite concerned, in terms of preparation, because I'm not required to take and have not taken Literature units (required to teach mainstream English). My university expects me to take Linguistics units only. In terms of placement, what does this mean for me? Will I be expected to teach VCE EAL during placements?

If you are a qualified EAL teacher or have experience teaching EAL, I would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts.
