I've been working at a firm based in England for 5 years, and oh boy what a place. if it wasn't for the people I work alongside I'd have been long gone. Anywho, I've been doing some math and comparisons and realized I'm actually paid under the minimum wage... by 37 hours last year and 7 hours so far this year. Stupid things i'm told are voluntary but are mandatory (I've been punished lately for not doing). and I've learned a lot of other things going on lately happening to other employees. If my situation is naughty, some people are being downright exploited. you know when you reach a point thinking that someone should be tipped off?
But another problem is, My employer who will take it personally and will act on my name attached to any kind of investigation. They will escalate well beyond professional retaliation, I have no doubt. There's stories that are widely known within the company, from the owner allegedly biting off someone's ear to a myriad of weirdly psychotic sounding attacks and intimidation of ex employees and such. But there's one that made the news where my employer quote from the article: "kicked the man in the head and walked off, leaving his victim unconscious in an assault described as 'eight seconds of complete madness'. The victim has been unable to brush his teeth, or hair, or even get out of the bath unaided."
There is a real culture of fear where I work and I just realized in feeling like I need to do something about it, doing something about it makes me consider a credible threat to my own safety. I don't want my name attached to any tip-off's. So can I do anything anonymously or do I just... exit and pretend the place doesn't exist?
