So on bar 3 it lands on the 7th of ii. I was transcribing the melody from memory and was trying to determine the functions as well, but I failed, so I looked it up. My question is: on modern music, how can you determine when the landing note is not in the triad and is a tension? Is there a way of knowing without listening to the piece?

Im a composer and pianist who is getting into classical guitar playing, but the guitar I was using suffered a head injury and has been slowly giving up on life...
