Is it odd to like Final Fantasy (and adjacent series like Kingdom Hearts and Mana) but generally dislike anime/manga?
I’ve been thinking this for a bit recently lol. I’ve considered myself a fan of Final Fantasy (along with other series that are similar like Kingdom Hearts and Mana) for years now, and still do. Despite this however, I could never really get into Anime/Manga much all. Despite the Anime/Manga inspirations those games have (which I won’t deny that they exist), I’ve found that I overall didn’t like/dislike most Anime/Manga I’ve read or watched.
I’ve tried many genres, I’ve tried Shonen, Seinen, even Shojo lol. I’ve went for battle, horror, slice of life, dark fantasy, romcom, comedies, dramas, etc. But for the overwhelming majority, I usually end up either being indifferent at best, don’t like/dislike it/, or flat out can’t stand it. I like a lot of anime/manga’s art/aesthetics and their music, but that’s about it.
However as I said, I still really like Final Fantasy (along with adjacent series like KH/Mana). It makes me wonder though how bizarre my case is though lol. While there are definitely noticeable anime characteristics/tropes, I’ve never really saw these games (along with KH/Mana as well) as ones that are completely/fully anime at their core, just ones that have undeniable anime/manga inspirations to them but are not the main, sole defining aspect of them. Maybe that’s just me lol.
So, what do you think? Do you also feel similarly as well or have similar feelings?
