Apraxia: ResT and DTTC?
This is my first year treating a student (10 y/o) with CAS. Reduced consonant repertoire- many sounds are subbed for /h/. He currently has /p, d, n, m/ and vowels "ae", schwa, "ee" and "oh". Syllables shapes include VC, CV, and inconsistently CVC. We started with DTTC and he made some (very slow) gains and can produce velars with visual cues. I only get to see him...ready for this?...1x/week for 20 minutes. Their district is unable to provide more although I have requested more hours. Because he has such a small inventory of sounds, would including nonsense words as in ReST be helpful? I have been using the parameters of smoothness, beats and sounds which he is responding to.
I am working on introducing new sounds into his repertoire (currently working on velars and /f/ which he is getting in isolation with cueing), but very slowly. He is not stimulable for blends or affricates. On an exciting note- he was approved for Proloquo recently. He hasn't received it yet, but it was approved! Thanks!
