Expired guardian 3 sensor ended. Lasted 10 days

I managed to pull this expired guardian 3 sensor for 10 days. Expired overnight last night.

The last few days were a bit rocky (see pic 2) but still in line with meter BG readings. The calibration of the second round had the sensor about 30mg/dl over the meter. I managed to calibrate it down to get it inline over 12 hours.

Im surprised it made it that long. Would not trust it if traveling. I may have a few more left to use.

Going for it.. expired Guardian 3 sensor

Launched this bad boy a few days ago. Guardian 3 expired >2 years ago - Feb 2024.

Historically getting 10 days on expired G4’s.

I hadn’t thought through the calibration needs since i have a G4 transmitter, and sure enough, only one calibration needed on startup. Initial calibration was a little high (sensor was +25 over meter reading). I calibrated it down to +12, and it has held to that. Normally i calibrate to +10 above meter).

So far so good and will post an update when it stops reading (or reading accurately)

I have a substantial amount of safety stock and have been using old Guardian 4 sensors with no issues. Put this one in yesterday expired October 2024.

I know there has been a bit of hate for G4’s. This is consistently my experience as I burn through old stock. Sharing in case it helps someone.

- I always load my sensors high on my arm - above my armpit. Goal, better area with circulation and more consistent readings

- Two pieces of the minimed “hole” tape tape before the transmitter is attached. Keeps sensor firmly attached.

- Single sensor tape wrap over for the transmitter. If that piece fails, I’ll add a small piece just to connect the sensor tape to transmitter.

This allows me to slip the transmitter off and reset the sensor. Generally I can get an additional 3-5 days on the same sensor before the transmitter battery dies, or I get the “updating sensor” message.

Happy to answer any questions.
