F1 visa holder with US investments — what happens if I leave the country permanently?

Hey everyone, looking for advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation.

I’m on an F1 visa with about 2 years left. I’ve been in the US for a few years and have built up some investments — a taxable brokerage account, a 401k through my employer, and a Roth IRA. I’m Colombian but also hold Spanish citizenship.

Two things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Should I keep investing here if I might not stay long-term? Or does it stop making sense at some point for someone who may leave permanently?

  2. What actually happens to your US accounts when you leave? Is there a way to manage them from abroad without getting taxed from every angle?

Has anyone navigated this? Would love to hear what you did.
