What is actually the core reason as to why people start therapy ?

for a long time, i used to think that therapy was about therapists finding out the trauma which patients have gone through and they're job was clinically addressing and resolving that, however the more i think about it perhaps it the therapy industry is exploding because people genuinely just desire someone to talk to and emotional connection, basically to feel heard (in a socially acceptable way) What do you guys think, am i far off ?
