Why is registration paid more
This is my rant for the day, why on earth does registration/patient access get paid more than the phlebotomists do at hospitals? Is there something I don’t know about patient access that makes it more difficult to check in a patient for an appointment? The patient access employees at our hospital aren’t nurses or anything like that. There’s no risk involved with their job, whereas I feel like phlebotomists have a higher risk job with accidental needle sticks, handling biohazards etc. So why are they paid more? We have to check patients into their next appointment in the hospital, and check them out of their lab appointment. Along with fixing whatever it is that patient access messed up when registering (even the doctors will often order the wrong labs) , so I’m just a little confused as to why they are paid more?
