Want to install macOS Tahoe on my MacBook Pro. Would install it on an external ssd and then use normal sequoia on the internal. Is that safe?

Hey I recently bought a MacBook Pro 13inch 2017 with 3.3ghz i5, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd. Currently, Sonoma is on it and runs smoothly. My question is should I upgrade to sequoia?
