Wanting to leave with promotion coming up, options ?
Currently trying to figure out my next move career wise and wanted some outside opinions.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work at 2 top US banks so far interned at one and joined another full-time afterward. I’m coming up on roughly 2 YOE as a SWE.
My current situation is kind of mixed. Pay is decent, workload has improved recently (had certain periods where i was doing absolute brain dead work), and I’m up for promotion by July. But at the same time, I really don’t see myself staying here any longer than I have to. I strongly dislike the location I’m in right now (MCOL city that I honestly don’t care about), and the chances of relocating back home closer to NYC seem pretty abysmal.
I’m trying to figure out what the smartest move is given the current market:
- Start applying now and test the waters?
- Wait and see if the promotion comes through first?
- Stay put until fall recruiting while grinding interview prep in the meantime?
Also wondering how active hiring even is right now for people around the 2 YOE level in roles roles given how bad the market is
Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve been in a similar spot. Also US Citizen so wouldn't need sponsorship.
