Best European destination for short trip for mom solo w/ 3 young kids
Hi all!
I get to take a work sabbatical next August and my husband and I are planning to spend 5 weeks in Europe. His parents have a home in Ireland (Castlebar area) so that will be our home base for the trip but I’d like to take my kids on some mini trips during the weeks that he has to work (trips lasting 3ish days). My kids will be 8, 5, and 4 during our trip. Does anyone have any good recommendations of places that are kid friendly and would be easy to navigate for a solo mom, especially during high season in Europe? Would prefer to rely on public transportation when available so I don’t have to deal with car seats, but not opposed to renting a car if necessary.
Ideal places are not super crowded (may be hard in August though), accessible public transport, and kid friendly.
There is also small airport nearby that flies direct to London, Barcelona, Lourdes, Milan, Cologne, and Rome (and a few other places). I’m a pretty experienced traveler and I’ve been to many of these places without kids but never during August. Mostly concerned about how crowded it will be, especially because I won’t have a stroller/don’t want my kids to get lost haha.
Also generally looking for any advice from parents that have done solo travel about what I can do to make the trip successful (and hopefully as low stress as possible for me!)
