Telling tracks apart on stage on the Launchpad Mk1

Hey folks,

I'm developing a stage production with live sound, and I'm aiming to trigger all the AV from the stage with a Novation Launchpad. I don't currently have access to a separate AV tech who can take care of this offstage. I'm using the Launchpad for tasks like:

-triggering audio clips,

-controlling lighting by way of dummy clips that trigger DMX, and

-effectively 'changing the signal routing' of various mics and speakers by turning on and off different tracks set to 'monitor in', each with different effects chains and different in/out configurations.

My laptop is offstage, so the launchpad itself is my only visual feedback. I'm currently using a Launchpad Mk1, which can display three colours (red, green, both at once = amber), so telling tracks apart quickly gets difficult once I have more in a session than the device's eight horizontal pads. Ditto keeping track of my horizontal scrolling through the session (rn I gotta memorize or write down exactly how many times I've pressed the right and left buttons, and hope my fingers haven't slipped on either).

  1. I understand Mk2 has full RGB capability; are the colours on the Mk2's mixer mode assignable, for ease of differentiation? Would it make my life easier to get my hands on one? To my understanding, colours in Mk2's clip mode are assignable; I've been differentiating clips on the Mk1 by varying the height of the clip slot.
  2. Has anyone run into this issue of differentiating tracks before, and have any tips on getting around it?

Many thanks in advance 🙏
