Is Iloilo becoming too “commercialized”?

Does anyone else miss when Iloilo felt more simple and relaxed?

Before, many local spots felt unique and had their own identity. Now it feels like every new place is starting to look the same. Same minimalist interiors, same menu styles, same aesthetic concepts, same social media strategy.

Even food places sometimes feel more focused on being “Instagrammable” than memorable.

At the same time, development is good for the city and we all want Iloilo to grow. But do you think the city is slowly losing some of its original character?

What are some local businesses, food spots, or old Iloilo vibes you wish would make a comeback?

Did Smallville lose its charm? What happened and how do we bring it back?

Anyone here miss the old Smallville days?

Back then, Smallville felt alive almost every night. Different age groups hanging out together, students, young professionals, families eating late, people just driving around and ending up there because that was the place to be.

I still remember the days of Picanto, GoMart beside Smallville 21, Tuki, B Place, Renato’s, Primo, Cocktail Cruisers, Flow, and sometimes Aura. Even tambay moments outside felt different. The energy was natural and not forced.

Now it feels quieter and somehow lost the identity that made it special. Maybe people changed, maybe nightlife changed, maybe social media and coffee culture replaced it, or maybe newer places divided the crowd.

What do you think caused the decline of Smallville? And realistically, what can business owners, the city, or the community do to bring life back to the area again?

What’s your favorite ‘small joy’ about living in Iloilo?

It can be anything. Sunsets by the river, cheap but solid street food, peaceful late night drives, kind strangers, or even the smell of fresh pancit molo on a rainy day.

Sometimes we focus too much on traffic, brownouts, or city issues, but what’s that one simple thing that still makes you happy to be an Ilonggo?
