Rit-dyed Baggu ONE YEAR LATER!
(I apologize for the slight difference in color; the first picture was indoors in natural light but today was pretty overcast/late in the afternoon when I was trying to take a photo so my overhead light is on and much warmer lol)
A year ago I made a post about my experience dyeing an ivory medium crescent (that I kept referring to as 'cream' for some reason???) with Rit Dye. I thought I would share an updated photo for those who were curious!
Most of the detail is in my original post, but a quick summary;
- used Rit All-Purpose Dye; followed their instructions exactly for the bucket method EXCEPT I halved the amount of dye they recommended because I heard that nylon takes up color very quickly and I was worried it would end up too dark.
- did NOT use a fixative
- the stitching did not absorb the dye (which I knew would happen), so I colored them with a fine tipped purple Sharpie. I originally tried two different fabric pens but they bled really badly when I tested them on the interior stitches.
- I have been rotating between this bag and my black crescent for most of the year, so it got plenty of use and abuse.
Overall, I'm really pleased with how it held up! I have not noticed any color transfer or fading of any kind, and this bag has gotten wet/dirty and been wiped clean plenty of times with no issue. The stitching didn't hold on to the Sharpie super well, and I could probably just go over it again, but it's not super bright white in person and I don't mind how it looks.
