do employers need employee consent for audio surveillance in california?

so i know that video surveillance is completely fine in stores regardless if the employees consent or not but im getting mixed signals on whether they need employee consent to record audio. for context my partner works at a candy store and his aunt records video and audio of practically the whole store except the bathrooms without his consent. she said it’s because insurance is making her do it but i think she just wants to spy on him and our phone conversations. she’s had cameras up forever but now is suddenly putting way more with audio. he’s reliable he’s not untrustworthy he’s literally never truly let her down and has never stolen a dime from her though she’s stolen plenty from him. he is the only employee besides her but she rarely works anymore due to personal family issues (her mom has been sick and recently died). he obviously can’t really do anything about it but i just want to know the laws.
